Apple Calculator vs. Calculator Duo: Which Workflow Fits?

Compare Apple Calculator history, Math Notes and conversions with Calculator Duo’s labeled sheets, editable rows, saved pages and static sharing.

A fair calculator comparison starts with the task. Apple Calculator handles quick arithmetic, scientific operations, history, Math Notes and conversions. Apple's current guide describes those modes. Calculator Duo is an app in development built around labeled calculation sheets, editable rows, saved pages and sharing as text or an image.

About this comparison: We are the team building Calculator Duo. Apple features below are based on its documentation, checked October 3, 2026. Duo descriptions concern the app in development. This is a workflow comparison, not a hands-on performance test or an independent ranking.

Start with the calculation you need

Adding two expenses, revising a freelance estimate and checking a logarithm are different tasks. A quick sum may need nothing beyond Apple's Basic mode. A calculation you revisit benefits from meaningful names and a clear record, but both apps offer ways to keep context. Choose the interface that fits your work.

What Apple Calculator already does

History and copying

Apple documents history for Basic and Scientific calculations. You can reopen an earlier calculation or copy its expression or result. Open history to select an entry; its copying options let you take the expression or answer elsewhere. See Apple's history instructions. A calculator history guide explains why keeping the steps matters.

Scientific operations and Math Notes

Scientific mode covers operations such as powers, logarithms and trigonometry. Math Notes offers a different approach: typed or written expressions, named variables, updated values and graphs. Do not confuse a descriptive row label with an algebraic variable; they serve different purposes.

Units and currencies

Apple documents unit and currency conversion. Duo's typed assistant supports conversions between compatible units. Duo does not provide currency exchange. Check that the units you need are supported before choosing a tool.

Calculator Duo's sheet workflow

Duo keeps numbers, operations and totals on a calculation sheet. Add a description such as “Development hours” or “Materials,” edit an earlier value, and review the recalculated results. Tap a value to reuse it, or use its copy option. A copied value follows its displayed rounding, so review the precision your next calculation needs.

Learn to label the numbers in an estimate before sharing it. Saved pages can be searched, renamed and pinned; Recently Deleted provides a recovery path. These organization tools are the app's focus, rather than a claim to replace every scientific function.

Sharing currently creates static text or an image through the iOS share sheet. For more than 100 displayed rows, or if an image cannot be made, sharing offers complete text instead. A recipient does not receive a live editable page. See how to share a calculation with enough context.

The optional beta assistant accepts typed questions. Check the proposed numbers, units and operations even when the arithmetic looks correct. The optional typed beta depends on your device, language and Apple Intelligence availability.

Example: revise a freelance estimate

These invented figures show arithmetic, not suggested rates. No tax is applied.

ItemOriginalRevised
Work at $85 per hour12 × $85 = $1,02014 × $85 = $1,190
Materials$240$240
Total$1,260$1,430

The two extra hours add $170. In Duo, label the inputs, edit the hours and review the new total. In Apple Calculator, enter the arithmetic directly; Math Notes offers another way using named variables. The calculation is the same. Its organization is the choice.

If you use iPhone Duo, check the work-calculator selection guide. The device's display and multitasking features do not establish tested support in every app.

Which should you use?

Frequently asked questions

Does Apple Calculator have history?

Yes. Apple documents history in Basic and Scientific modes, with reopening calculations and copying an expression or result.

What is Calculator Duo’s focus?

Labeled calculation sheets that keep rows, operations and totals together. You can edit inputs, reuse results and organize saved pages. The app is in development.

Can both apps convert units?

Apple supports unit and currency conversions. Duo supports typed conversions between compatible units, but does not provide currency exchange.

Can Calculator Duo share a live editable page?

Sharing creates a fixed text or image copy through iOS. It is not live coediting. Very long sheets, or sheets whose image cannot be made, are offered as complete text.

Is Duo’s assistant a voice calculator?

No. Questions are typed. The assistant is beta, so check its interpretation. Availability depends on your device, language and Apple Intelligence.

Can I download Calculator Duo now?

It is not publicly available yet. You can explore the website and join the email waitlist for development and launch updates.
